Telehealth is regulated state by state. Each Provider must be licensed in the state where the patient is physically located at the time of the encounter. Pharmacies must be licensed in the state where the patient receives shipment. Some therapies are subject to additional state-specific restrictions.
The Affiliated Provider Network providing care to you, and the identity and licensure of your treating clinician, are disclosed to you in your patient dashboard and at the visit. The Network may be added to, expanded, or substituted by Leader Health on notice without revising these documents. Where the Service operates with more than one Affiliated Provider Network, your assigned Network and the Providers within it are shown in your dashboard. The Network includes clinicians licensed in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
Leader Health is available in all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia at rollout. Your treating clinician is licensed in the state where you are physically located at the time of the encounter, and your dispensing Pharmacy is licensed or registered to ship to that state.
Availability is subject to each state's law. A state (or a specific therapy in a state) may become temporarily unavailable if a clinician licensing gap, pharmacy licensing gap, regulatory change, or operational issue requires it; any state or therapy that is temporarily unavailable is marked on this page and surfaced at intake and on the relevant product page. The controlling rule is the state in which you are physically located at the time of the encounter.
Even at 50-state availability, individual therapies may be unavailable or restricted in particular states based on that state's law, including scope-of-practice rules, controlled-substance schedules, compounding restrictions, telemedicine modality rules (synchronous vs. asynchronous), NP/PA scope and delegation rules, and pharmacy-board rules. The current list of therapy-level state restrictions is shown during intake and on each product page
Examples (illustrative; subject to change):
Controlled substances. Testosterone is a Schedule III controlled substance under the federal Controlled Substances Act. Your Provider operates under the federal layer (the Controlled Substances Act, the Ryan Haight Online Pharmacy Consumer Protection Act of 2008, and the U.S. DEA's telemedicine framework as in effect from time to time, including any current extension or successor to the COVID-era telemedicine flexibilities) and under the controlled-substance and telemedicine-prescribing rules of the state where you receive care (for example, Texas Health & Safety Code Chapter 481 and the Texas Medical Board's telemedicine rules at 22 Tex. Admin. Code Chapter 174 for care provided in Texas, and the corresponding rules of each other state for care provided in that state). Your Provider may require an in-person medical evaluation before issuing or refilling a controlled-substance prescription. If a rule change requires changes to how your therapy is delivered, you will be notified and your Provider will explain your options.
Compounded GLP-1 medications. Availability rests on Section 503A individualized clinical need, documented in the patient record. Compounded products are not FDA-approved. Some states impose additional compounding-pharmacy restrictions; the current state-by-state availability is shown at intake and on the product page. See Compounding Disclosure.
Peptides. Availability depends on the FDA bulks list and current compounding status; some peptides commonly discussed online are not available for compounding under current FDA guidance. Specific peptides may also be restricted in particular states.
Telemedicine modality. Some states restrict synchronous-only modalities for certain therapies or first encounters; your Provider applies the rule in effect at the time of your visit.
If you move to a new state, update your address in your dashboard before your next encounter or refill. Your Provider can deliver care only when you are physically located in a state where they are licensed, and your dispensing Pharmacy will only ship to a state to which it is licensed or registered.
You may message your care team and complete encounters from anywhere in a state where your Provider is licensed. Prescriptions and lab orders are tied to your state of record at the time of the encounter or order.
If you have a complaint about the conduct or competence of a clinician, you have the right to file a complaint with the medical board of the state in which you received care.
